Overview
The Funsteps Preschool Program starts with our focus on the whole child and their
individual needs. Our goal within this program is to identify, build and develop
each child’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical strengths and interests. This
goal is achieved through the personal attention of our dedicated and qualified teachers,
stimulating and developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum, and welcoming classroom
environment that provides endless opportunities to explore and learn.
Classroom and Environment
Our preschool classroom is a welcoming environment that is safe, positive, motivating and Fun! The Funsteps preschool classroom is designed to provide three year old children with a variety of engaging toys, books, hands on activities and educational learning centers that foster all areas of their development. The classroom promotes learning and social interaction with their peers and teachers as well as opportunities for individual play, rest, and exploration.
Funsteps has a large, fenced in playground for our preschoolers immersed with a variety of age appropriate toys and apparatuses for them to explore, play and enhance their gross motor skill development.
Teachers
Each preschool teacher is certified in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid and has specialized training and education in Early Care and Education meeting the Teacher requirements and qualifications for the State of Delaware. With their warm, welcoming personalities and unconditional love for children, our teachers nurture and inspire all children to play, explore, create, discover and learn. Funsteps teachers model and teach developmentally acceptable behaviors and expectations of the classroom while embracing each child’s needs and individuality. Parental communication and involvement is encouraged and promoted through daily verbal communication at drop off and pick up and
opportunities to talk to the teacher throughout the day.
Curriculum
Funsteps preschool curriculum ensures that all children are receiving quality care and education while developing their preschool readiness skills. Through a combination of direct teacher instruction and hands on leaning experiences we are able to foster learning, discovery and motivation within our children. Supporting Delaware’s Department of Education Early Learning Foundations for Preschool Children and the Christina School District Content Standards, each preschooler is provided with daily enriching, recreational and educational hands on activities and experiences in:

*fine motor skills
*dramatic/imaginative play
*large motor development

*building/construction
*writing
*arts and crafts
*math and science(manipulatives, problem solving)
*music & movement
*multi-
*cooking/food exploration
Developmental checklists and portfolios are shared with parents on their child’s growth and progress in reaching their developmental milestones throughout the year.
Necessities
Funsteps provides each preschooler with their own:
*cubby to keep their personal belongings
*rest time mat
* AM and PM snack
*all needed utensils and paper products
*all the educational supplies and materials needed to implement the preschool curriculum
Funsteps asks parents to provide:
*breakfast for their child each day if dropped off before 7:30am if necessary
*a nutritious bag/box lunch labeled with their name & condiments if needed
*2 changes of clothes to be kept in their cubby
*a crib size sheet and small blanket for rest time
*weather appropriate outdoor wear
*sunscreen (seasonal)
*water bottle
